Abbie

1.5 Years

Okay, so she's mostly blind (peripheral vision)and partly deaf (hears lower pitched sounds), and a bit of a bossy soul. But what's a few limitations when presented with such a character?! No fear of trying news things or meeting new dogs (has to be intro'd to cats properly, though). Is willing to meet new people, negotiates stairs and couches like a completely sighted dog, loves her leash walks and going for car-rides. I realize she won't be the dog for everyone for example people with a young family shouldn't choose her because of her sight impairments. The reality is she simply does require a bit more care and vigilance because of her "disabilities". She weighs around 30 lbs. now, almost chubby, has a special fondness for Springer Spaniels and Rollover, absolutely adores who she knows and will make friends quick, especially if you have treats.

Alanah

2 Years

This resourceful mom somehow managed to keep her 9 pups alive with little to no food and barely any shelter. Found on the Blood Reserve, her pups are still young and will need her for a few more weeks. Soon, however, we'll proceed with her spay and start work on basic training. Alanah is some kind of Shepherd, perhaps Husky X, but has a wolf look to her. She's large, a bit shaggy and underweight at the moment, but very willing to be handled, stroked and seems thankful for endless food and water. We're just going to let her become familiar with her new space, get healthy and come to understand that we're not going to hurt her.

Bella

3 Years

Bella's come to us in conjunction with Calgary Humane Society. Originally from the Penticton SPCA, Bella's a medium sized Shep/maybe Collie X with a few quirks ... we believe she is mostly deaf for starters and she heavily relies on sense of sight versus scent. She is strong on leash but will correct, and is way too interested in cats for us to be okay allowing her go into a cat-home. We've done little socializing with other dogs at the moment, instead allowing her time to learn us and burn off some energy in her new environment. UPDATE: Bella is really coming along! She's playing well with numerous dogs (doesn't like the humpy ones much!), seems to hear higher pitched sounds quite easily and sadly, is still no better with the cats. There's something about her that is really quite special!UPDATE: Bella did quite well in her x-mas foster. She played well with the two boys (dogs, that is), totally respected the horses and although she did challenge their low page-wire fencing, she stayed close and came back when low-whistled. She had to be fed seperately from the other dogs, but crated without a problem and quickly bonded to the family.

Benji

3 Years

In conjunction with CARES (Claresholm Animal Rescue), we've agreed to help retrain and rehome this wee fellow. For a young dog, he is coming with some health issues. He has degenerative cornea disease and will eventually become completely blind, probably over the next 5 years. His eye condition aside, Benji is an affectionate and easy to handle dog who enjoys his leashwalks, is very respectful to cats and likes to play with other easy-going dogs. We're not recommending a home with young children because of his disability. UPDATE: I'm officially in love with this little guy! He's completely settled into kennel life during the day, and with me at night. He lets me do his eyedrops without problem, very kind to the cats and other dogs, just an all around easy going soul.

Chai

10 Weeks

This wee girl, newly named Chai, has a bit of Shepherd, perhaps Lab, in her. Found underneath a trailer, her littermates succumbed to starvation. Still very thin but eating well, she's been dewormed and vaccined, and I'm sure has already grown in the last 48 hours! A bit shy still, we'll start socializing her to other dogs, cats and people once she gained a bit of strength.
